It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to our website on behalf of San Martin de Porres Church.

The Order of Mercy is currently attening this parish, as we too salute and welcome you and hope that all of this information shared with you will benefit you in the best way possible.

While attending this parish, with great honor we recognize a great man called San Martín de Porres, with God by his side has blessed him by granting him wonderful miracles even to this day.

The story of this great man from Lima Perú, leaves us fascinated to this day, because in a certain sense, contradicts everything what the society of that then, and ours until today they judge like signs of the social value of a person: Good appearance, good Last name and good social and economic position.

This man, with arms wide open to this day welcomes you, hoping and that through this website the evangelization of the Church becomes present.

History

August 10, 2002 is when the family of the Order of Mercy came to the Rio Grande Valley from the Mexican Providence of the Order of Mercy.

P. Fr. Osvaldo Vivar Martinez, who at this time was the province is who named P. Fr. Julián Becerril Cardiel, Pastor of this parish, Bishop Raymundo J. Peña took oath and was present as well, and bestowed the Mexican Providence of the Order of Mercy a contract for 12 years.

The possession took place according to cannons 521,522, 524 y SS, and the preists present at this ceremony were: P. Fr. Mariano Labarca Araya General Teacher of the Order of Mercy, P. Fr. Pedro Zavala Guerrero, who at the time was the General Vicar and Finance Director; present as well were Brother Preists from Monterrey Nuevo León, México.

The priests present on behalf of the Diocese, and who accompanied Bishop Peña was P. Carols Villareal who sereved as secretary and notary, and who celebrated the Holy Mass, is who named as new Parish Priest P. Fr. Julián Becerril here in Alton, Texas.

At the end of the Holy Mass, we greeted each other, and congratulated ourselves as we wished each other blessings for the newly granted relationship.

Finally we went the Priest's home where, according to Cannon 533, the Parish Priest will reside near the Parish he will be.

May God bless us with this new responsibility that we are being entrusted, through the Holy Virgin of the Order of Mercy as she covers us with her Holy Mantle.
